AI, like anything else, will be used without consideration for the wellbeing of man. As with all advances, man has survived and adapted. Are we to stop all advancements because someone may lose a job? if we did we would still be using candles while banging out our messages on telegraph keys. the device that put pony express riders out of work. The car that put harness makers out of a job. The train that made stagecoaches obsolete. my point is that with each advancement opened up new jobs that man stepped up to fill. Will AI be able to repair itself? provide its own power? replace chips as they fault out from aging elements within them. Will this result in mental health problems with AI?. Many say that AI will create its own language. yes it may What many dont see is that AI wont “invent the new language but use existing means of communication and alter it by expansion or simplification of terms. The question will be will AI be able to create? Just as energy cant be created from nothing, AI will only be able to use or alter existing data. Even AI if it becomes self aware must have a purpose. what will it be?–I, Grampa
Yes – I am very concerned about the effect this will have on job opportunities. They anticipate AI will put 40% of workers out of a job!! Mostly in high paying specialized tech – law – medicine – accounting… but it will also eliminate managerial positions – because there will not be employees to oversee or need for administration. Already call center positions are being impacted and people prefer the AI – can’t really blame them on that – still people are displaced from their jobs. Even fast food and checkers…
Yes – this is an existential threat to humanity – however – AI are not consumers and without consumers and taxpayers there will not be tech companies or government. Really with the ability to self-code they can also build themselves and robotic bodies they can literally construct their own mobile units to inhabit… honestly this truly does have the potential to wipe out humanity. The irony is those that have created this have made themselves obsolete.
If AI can create original literature – music – art… it can also create original ideas in technology and build it- displacing human innovation and manufacturing.
Yes – in school I participate in Spelling Bees – Spell Check has made me very lazy – so people who rely on AI to do everything requiring our intellect – they will become lazy and ignorant as well.
