This got criticized for some historical inaccuracies, but I thought the History Channel did a fair job with their mini-series, “The Sons of Liberty,” about the early American revolutionaries in MA who started the war for independence. When I listen to Topher talk about how our wealth has made us comfortable, and we won’t react until we’re hurt, I’m reminded of the story of John Hancock. He’s remembered for that big signature he put on the Declaration of Independence (so the king could read it without glasses), but he started out hesitant to join the cause, because he was a wealthy trader. He thought he could negotiate a fine deal for himself with the British. He later found out that was a mistake, when Gen. Gage took his house from him (Gage used it as his headquarters)! It was only then that he understood why the other revolutionaries acted as they did, and decided to join them.
