Fauci Takes the Fifth. Farrar Slips Out the Door.

A Senate committee recently voted to hold former NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress, referring him to the Justice Department for possible criminal prosecution. This long-awaited, if partial victory, which occurred on August 6, marks the sharpest turn yet in a long reckoning over Fauci and his catastrophic shenanigans. Specifically, how he handled the pandemic, the lockdowns that shut down the nation, the mandates that forced millions into compliance, the funding of dangerous and risky virus research overseas, and the lingering question of how COVID-19 began in the first place. Just 12 days after Fauci’s day of very public scrutiny, on August 18, the World Health Organization (WHO) quietly announced that its Assistant Director-General for Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Care, Sir Jeremy Farrar, was leaving. Farrar, for those unaware, has been buddies with Fauci from the beginning. How? He helped craft the science that the world used to dictate how to deal with the global health emergency. Farrar was also a central figure in the international networks orchestrating the lockdowns, vaccines, and the overall tyrannical pandemic response that shuttered society.

According to the WHO, Farrar, who was Chief Scientist at the WHO before assuming his current role, is simply retiring. He is 64, after all, and will reach the organization’s retirement age at the end of September. A typical “nothing to see here” announcement from the WHO, that didn’t survive scrutiny from those who actually know how the group works. Insiders and media reports have characterized Farrar’s sudden exit as a resignation, with the Telegraph reporting that Farrar had grown frustrated with the organization’s internal politics. Imagine that. One source told Health Policy Watch that “retirement age as the reason makes no sense,” adding that “the reasons could also be political.” Others pointed to the sharp private criticism that Farrar had leveled at Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus’s leadership and how the WHO handles its technical and data work.

To understand why Farrar’s sudden exit from the WHO appears significant, we must circle back to the moment the disastrous pandemic plan was set in motion. On the night of January 31, 2020, a scientist emailed Fauci to say that parts of the new virus “look engineered.” Within hours, Fauci convened a secret teleconference with a handpicked group of virologists from around the world. Days later, several of them began drafting a paper called “Proximal Origin,” which was published that March and definitively declared that the virus was “not a laboratory construct.” Essentially closing the door on the lab leak theory, the paper shaped years of public debate and press coverage on the pandemic that destroyed life as we knew it. House investigators later confirmed that Fauci helped shape the paper, with that fact sitting near the center of the case against him today. Of course, Fauci has denied any wrongdoing. Along with that, Democratic committee members and select scientists still vehemently insist that there was no cover-up. Either way, the intentional drafting of Proximal Origin is no longer a mystery, and Sir Jeremy Farrar was instrumental in making it happen.

Indeed, as revealed in emails released under the Freedom of Information Act, it was Farrar who swiftly wrote back to Fauci as the secret call was being plotted, telling him that two of the key scientists would “talk through it on the call,” adding, “Hope it will help frame the discussions.” And framing the discussions is exactly what ensued. Farrar was in no way a mere bystander to the COVID origins narrative. He actively helped organize the meetings that produced it.

And to be clear, he was no ordinary participant. A congressional memo made public last year reported that the lead author of Proximal Origin told the journal that the paper had been “prompted” by three men: Anthony Fauci, then-NIH director Francis Collins, and Jeremy Farrar. Think about it. Three of the most powerful figures in global health are named as the ones who orchestrated and set in motion the paper that instructed the world to quit thinking that COVID was the result of a lab leak. At the time of the scandal, Farrar ran the Wellcome Trust, one of the largest private funders of medical research on the planet, with an investment portfolio well into the tens of billions. This placed him deep inside the very research world that the origins question revolves around.

Farrar and Fauci were not just acquaintances. For years, the Wellcome Trust, led by Farrar, and the NIAID, led by Fauci, jointly funded a network of infectious disease research labs in Southeast Asia. But that is not all. Farrar also sat beside Fauci on the board of a global pandemic preparedness body. Likewise, Farrar was an independent expert on the SAGE committee in the United Kingdom, which pushed lockdowns in Britain, and he co-authored papers on avian flu with George Gao, who served at the time as director of China’s version of the CDC. These relationships, documented and confirmed, reveal an intimate and tightly connected circle of leaders who fund each other’s risky public health tinkering and sit on each other’s boards. And, significantly, in the early days of 2020, as the pandemic began festering, they moved in unison to shape what the COVID origins narrative that would be shoved upon the entire world.

Is justice finally on the horizon? Will the evildoers be held accountable for their destruction? Presently, those at the center of the COVID narrative are under public scrutiny. Fauci has been referred for prosecution. A Florida attorney has subpoenaed his records, and the lab-leak possibility that was, for years, dismissed as a crazy conspiracy theory has now been concluded to be the most plausible explanation. And at precisely this moment, one of the key figures from the entire scandal—Sir Jeremy Farrar—is suddenly leaving his post at the WHO, with an explanation his own colleagues call implausible. Hmmm. Right off the bat, the timing and the circumstances of Farrar’s departure from the WHO raise valid questions. Why is the WHO calling his resignation a retirement? Why is a man as influential as Farrar leaving without announcing his next move? And why is Farrar leaving now, in the same month that his origins story turned from a political argument to a criminal referral for his close colleague?
